First Aid for Fairies
and other Fabled Beasts

”And the best bit is...” Helen flicked a few pages back in the book, ”the best bit is, this isn’t some fairy tale like Cinderella that could come from any country. This one is set in Scotland...”

First Aid for Fairies and other Fabled Beasts

First Aid for Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts is an exciting race through Scotland‘s most magical landscapes, from the legends of the Borders hills, up to the ancient stones of Orkney and finally down to the city under Edinburgh‘s streets.

Helen has absolutely no interest in becoming a vet like her mother. So when she opens the door one night to find an injured horse in the garden, she just wants to get rid of him as fast as possible. Only this horse isn‘t entirely normal. Nor are his friends.

Helen‘s curiosity about this extraordinary group of beasts from fable and legend leads her to help them in their urgent quest to find the lost Book before the Winter Solstice. But the young fabled beasts are being pursued by another creature from darker legends, the Master of the Maze, who wishes to use the Book to destroy their world.

In three long nights of danger and excitement, Helen uses her Mum‘s first aid kit, her quick mind for riddles and her skill with the violin to help the fabled beasts in their quest.

But who will help Helen when she comes face to face with Master of the Maze?

Riddling Workshop

Imagine trying to answer a riddle, knowing that your life depends on getting the answer right! Many traditional stories (and First Aid for Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts) contain riddles that the heroine or hero has to answer to get out of danger or win their heart's desire. I wonder if you can answer my favourite riddles, and what fiendish mind-twisting riddles we can create together.

Fabled Beasts

The young fabled beasts and the terrifying villain in First Aid for Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts were inspired by ancient myths and legends. I can tell those fabulous old stories, and inspire you to dream up your own legendary beasts.

Traditional Storytelling

Tam Linn is a wonderful Scottish fairy tale from the Borders, which inspired a night-time battle in First Aid for Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts. I can tell you the story of Tam Linn, but I can also tell stories from all parts of Scotland. I might even have one or two from your area!
